1958 Bedford CA Dormobile Camper, This rare SWB splitscreen with porthole windows was fully restored two years ago and has been featured in the December 2008 Classic Van and Pick up Magazine (copy provided) as well as several Motor Caravan magazines. It is to be heavily featured in the forthcoming Dormobile book by prize-winning author Martin Watts. It was featured on the Classic Camper Club stand at the NEC Classic Car Show in 2007 and 2008 and it won Best Panel Van and Best in Show at the 2008 Classic Camper Club National Rally., It has a fully rebuilt 1507cc engine with unleaded cylinder head that has covered just over 600 miles, and a reconditioned 3 speed column change gearbox., The van has all its original equipment and features which include, elevating candy stripe roof, Dormatic multi function seating, Wardrobe with stool, 2 burner hob, small sink, drop down rear step, 2 x underfloor storage bins, gas light, 2x wooden trays, table and headboard. The van sleeps 2 people using the Dormatic seats which can be made into a double or 2 single beds, the front passenger seat also swivels round to face the rear and provide a seat for the table and the 2 rear seats slide together to make a bench seat for 3 people. There is also fitted a modern Kenwood Stereo Radio/CD Player- to play only ‘50s Rock & Roll!, The extensive restoration included all new engine ancillaries and exhaust. Repairs to front wheel arches, sills and doorsteps, rear inner arches and front outriggers were carried out. Good rust free replacement doors and front panels were sourced and the finished body was resprayed inside and out. The Dormatic seats were powder coated and then retrimmed. The brakes had all wheel cylinders and shoes replaced, new metal brake pipes fitted, and the suspension benefited from new shock absorbers all round. A new rear floor was made in marine ply, and a new headlining in birch ply. All furniture was restored, new wing piping, new side trim infill, new windscreens and rubbers were fitted. A new old-stock speedometer was fitted - the list goes on and on! The van was then Waxoiled underneath for future protection., Classic campers with this sort of pedigree rarely become available and this one is a sure head-turner wherever you go!
